(CW 12.1) Reconstruction Timeline

Today, we started studying Reconstruction – the time period following the Civil War.  We defined “reconstruction” as a “rebuilding” or “starting over.”  In this context, the country needed to rebuild – physically, economically, and politically – after four years of bloody Civil War.

The first classwork assignment is to create a timeline of events during Reconstruction.  Skim through chapter 12, and find 12 events.  The first event should be Appomattox Courthouse (1865, the end of the Civil War) and the last event should be the Compromise of 1877 (1877, the end of Reconstruction).

Once you have filled in the timeline, choose four events.  Summarize each event and explain its significance in a paragraph.  The written portion should therefore be four paragraphs.
